History of Corydon

1950’s

From Adremont Blue Prince to Light Cavalry of Ladypark

The CORYDON prefix was registered at the kennel club

John exhibited at his first ever show, CRUFTS !!!.

We did not have to qualify in those days. Crufts was held at Olympia in London. The judge this year was Mr Leo Wilson, an all-rounder with a world-wide reputation.

John showed LIGHT CAVALRY OF LADYPARK in the puppy dog class, but he was unplaced in a class of 28
Barbara showed BIRCHBOUGHS BARON in the Graduate Dog Class and he was placed VHC

This show was interesting because one dog, Commander of Crannyglen, won all the dog classes and was Best of Breed. He never became a Champion.

It is also interesting to look at the entry in comparison to today’s shows. In 1958 - 127 Rough Collies were entered, but they made an entry of 302. In 2003 - 257 Rough Collies were entered, but the entry had dropped to 280. A sign of the times? Maybe because today’s exhibitors are not so keen as we were 45 years ago. I cannot think of any other reason, because a second entry for the same dog is free. Surely not everyone is expecting their dog to win its class and there for be in the challenge for the CC. I can remember going to some shows where we had entered a dog in several classes and started off by him not being placed, but in the last class he won a first prize. All good fun, so someone is missing out.
