History of Corydon

1950’s

From Adremont Blue Prince to Light Cavalry of Ladypark

John went to CRUFTS again after the disappointment of the cancellation of the show in 1954.
But due to his Airforce duties he was unable to get to the show early enough to buy a catalogue. They had sold out by 10 a.m.
However he was able to see a dog that made a lasting impression on him. This was Mrs George's BEULAH'S BLANCO-Y-NEGRO, who won the Dog CC & BOB under the Judge, Mr E C Pierce. I remember Mrs George waiting for the other exhibitors to go into the ring and set their dogs up for the judge, she then walked slowly into the ring with this big, very black dog with a huge white collar. Nobody else had ever seen him, she had kept him back just for this show. He completely overshadowed all the other dogs in the ring and just had to be awarded the top prize. He would not win today, because he had a very large blaze, but was he handsome!!! He was probably the main reason I went into go into Rough Collies, because at the time I was deciding to go either go into Rough Collies or Newfoundlands.

John also went to the very first London Collie Club Championship Show which was held at Battersea Park in London. The Judge was the  famous Jimmy Garrow. He awarded the Dog CC and BOB to Negro and the bitch CC went to a bitch handled by Tom Purvis.
