THE HISTORY OF CORYDON COLLIES

From CH CORYDON QUI VIVE to CH LITTLE CAESAR AT CORYDON

1978

The year that introduced 2 dogs who became very famous Champions.
LITTLE CAESAR AT CORYDON and CORYDON HANDSOME HERO
Caesar was most un-photogenic and we have no really good photographs of him, but the camera loved Hero and it was nearly impossible to take a bad photograph of him. So we have lots of photos of Hero and hardly any of Caesar. Although we have Caesar on film and he looks wonderful. I will try and get a still to put on this site.

The show year started very badly as we entered Caesar and Bouquet in Blue at East Anglian under Mr J Tait. He placed them badly in their classes, but then he never did like our Collies
It was no better at Crufts under Mr H McLaren, but Caesar’s brother, Damerel Aristedes won the Puppy Dog Class.
However Betty Eglin judged the dogs at British Collie Club Championship Show and awarded 3 first prizes and Best Puppy Dog to Hero. He then went on to be Best Puppy Dog at Collie Club of Wales Open Show under Mr R Mitchell.
Pollyhanna came out at Northumberland and Durham Collie Club and won the Res CC under Vera Hickson. She then went on to win Best of Breed at Newark & Notts. Agricultural Show, and then Caesar won the Res CC at Southern Counties under May Young. And then in June Hero really started to come into his own. He was Best in Show at Midland Collie Club. He was placed second in a strong Stakes Class at Windsor and was placed 6th in the Puppy Stakes Class at Paignton under Joe Braddon. I remember this well as there were 233 entered for this one class. To come 6th was a big performance. Interestingly, all of the 6 dog placed went on to win Groups at Championship Shows. Hero then went on to Best in Show at East Anglian under Terry Taylor.
Hero won his first CC at West of England Collie Club under Frank Davies. At Yorkshire Collie Club CORYDON OLD KING COLE won the Dog CC and Best in Show under Mr J Broderick. Probably because the floor was very slippery and Hero refused to move. But he went to London Collie club Open Show under Lisa Burtenshaw and once again was Best in Show. He followed this with Res CC at Driffield under Mrs J Cable, and then the second CC came at Lancashire and Cheshire Collie Club under Mr J Pearson. And then LKA under Mrs A Bishop where he won the CC and Best of Breed. So becoming a Champion as a Junior, quite a rare feat.
Caesar was not to be left completely in the shade as he won Res Best in Show at Midland Collie Sanction Show under Mr R Mitchell. But it was at the same Clubs Championship Show the next year that he came to the fore.
