History of CORYDON
1950’s
From Adremont Blue Prince to Light Cavalry of Ladypark
This was the year that John first became interested in the breed.
He went to CRUFTS for the first time and became a member of THE COLLIE ASSOCIATION.
He already owned one dog, a Welsh Sheepdog called LADDIE and the family had a terrier type called PATCH
CRUFTS in 1953 was judge by Mrs George of the famous BEULAH collies.
She awarded the Dog CC and BOB to Miss Clare Molony's WESTCARRS WHISTLER. The same owner won 2 first prizes with her soon to become very famous WESTCARRS BLUE MINORU.
The bitch CC was awarded to Mrs A E Newbury's SILVASTARJOY FROM SHIEL.
Other exhibitors showing their dogs at this show were Mrs Chatfield, Mrs Hazel Hunt (then Mrs Collins and the only exhibitor still showing today) the Misses Young (Ugony)Tom Purvis and Frank Mitchell (Glenmist)
Unfortunately I cannot find any photos of the main winners. Ch. Ugony's Golden Son 'O' Lad of Riffelsea was entered not for competition.
Riffelsea Regality was shown by Hazel Collins, but she was later sold to Mrs Chatfield who made her into a Champion. One of 3 bitches from this litter who got made up. These included Frank Mitchell's Ch Riffelsea Reward of Glenmist who also did extremely well in obedience classes.
